Played more DK Bananza. Game has basically clicked for me now, I think the more structured approach compared to Odyssey really works. I'm on the 3rd proper layer now (though the 2nd is a shorter interlude sorta zone), most of the way through it again. One thing I will say is that I kinda wish the bosses had like, more to them. They're not bad but so far they've all been really short fights, they have one healthbar that melts decently fast and no like, second phase or anything. I guess short boss fights are better than the alternative (fights that are too long), but idk. I can only assume it gets better later on.
